I want these two tattoos but not sure which one should i put on my right foot?
I want a hibiscus flower and a shamrock but not both on my feet. I want only one on my right foot.
the hibiscus would be designed like this...
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x231/...
and the colors like this but brighter...
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x231/...
or the clover...of course it would be in color and the ring at the top would not be there!

i'd go with the Hibiscus. it will look better with the chinese symbols for your dad. you can get flowers done really nicely as tattoos. i got a lily and had it in color with no black anywhere and it looks like a drawing or painting.
and the hibiscus is a beautiful flower. i think you should go for it. flowers are always quite unusual tattoos too. not just some ordinary design out of a book.
good luck! it'll look beautiful :D

Reply:ooh get the flower...it's absolutely beautiful. i think the best foot tattoos are kind of on top, outside, where a flip flop strap would go. good luck!
Reply:i'd say a small hibiscus behind your ear, or on your lower back. the shamrock (clover) would be on your right foot.

A question about my English name...?
I'm a Chinese student live in Taiwan, and my English teacher want any students' English name. My Chinese name is meaning "like a hibiscus", if I want my English name has this close meaning, how should I name?
A question about my English name...?
English names aren't like Chinese names, in that the meanings are very different and not really that well known anymore.
As people above have said, there isn't a name in English that means 'like a hibiscus' but you could choose an english flower name if you want to be closer (such as Rose, Poppy, Lily, Flora). However, if you want to try and get the feel of the name, that may be better.
I am assuming that 'like a hibiscus' has meanings in Chinese about feminity, beauty and vibrancy. You could therefore try English names that have a similar feeling to them, such as Isobel, Chloe (actually means life), Charlotte, Lana, Imogen, Lauren, Annette, Iris, Camille, Helena or Eloise (pronounced eh-lou-eese).
One thing I would say, though, if you go to study in an English speaking country don't feel that you have to change your name - I always think it's a shame (unless, of course, you want to, or you can't bear all of us English speakers mispronouncing your name!).
Reply:When I think of American names, the first one which is plant-like and begins with an "H" would be Heather.
Going in another direction, Hibiscus mutabilis is also called Confederate Rose or Cotton Rose. Seeing as how it is a Chinese hibiscus, I always think of the movie Gone with Wind and the Confederate Rose or Cotton Rose of that movie would be Scarlett.
Reply:In India Girls Name "JASUM" means Hibiscus
Reply:I have always been partial to the name, Emily but i need your Chinese name to get an English name. If you post your Chinese name, i will edit my question with a better name.

there is a prevailing attitude among English speakers to not name their sons after flowers. other languages seem to do this, but English does not. the best advice i can tell you is to look for a name that is similar to yours in English and use that. that will be better than any flowery name anyone can give you.

I want the chinese symbol "daddy's little girl" tattoo but not sure where to put it?
My dad passed away in 2003 so this has a significant meaning to me. I want it small but not sure where to put it. I was thinking on my wrist and if i have to cover it I could just wear a watch. I am already getting hibiscus flower on the top of my foot. Anyone have any good suggestions?

I like the wrist idea. That way you could decide when to display it.
Just nowhere that could be construed as sexual in any way. That could get weird.
Reply:I would say the rib cage... you dont see those much. the wrist is good too
Reply:put it on yout left shoulder balde... its close to your heart and easily hidden when you need it to be. i try to make my clients understand that if they ever want or try to get a professional job then anything on public skin may be a turn off to your employer. just keep that in mind.
i know youll make a good decision! and that will be a great looking tat.

Chinese Symbol Tattoos?
I was talking to someone a few months ago and i was telling her about how i want to get the Chinese symbol for "Love" on my ankle. And she responded by saying "I would never get a chinese symbol because tattoo artists usually change part of the symbol so it means something completely different, like they could change the word "love" into something innapropriate" and that made me think, can they really do that? Would some actually be cruel enough to do that? Could you sue if they did do that? I do still want that tattoo, but ever since she said that, i've been kinda nervous. Any advice? And also, what do think about Chinese symbol tattoos?
Personally, I like them. However, sooo many people have them =/
I also like hibiscus flowers and hearts...any tattoo suggestions??
Chinese Symbol Tattoos?
yes, the longer you think it over the better it would be for you in there. Some tattoo parlors do transfer tattoos where you can wear it until it fades and washes away that is what I would do first before I put a permanent mark on myself.
Reply:My fiance has a chinese symbol on his arm that means soulmates and I looked on the computer at MANY MANY different sites to make sure I had the right symbol. I printed it out, and took it to the tattoo guy and it looks exactly like it's supposed too. Seriously, go to google and type in "love chinese symbol" and look at a lot of different sites to make sure it really means love, and then print it out and take it with you. That way, you know it's really Love
Reply:Yes people have been getting chinese symbols and it ended up saying something else or it was tattooed on backwords. Make sure the tattooest knows what they are doing.

Tattoo artist's don't change what it says, they don't know what it means any more and you and me! At least 50% of the time it's totally different from what you think it means, only about 1 in 10 is a correct translation
I work with a pair of tattooists and the general opinion is that if someone's really dumb enough to get a tattoo in a language they have absolutely no knowledge of then they really deserve what's coming to them
Reply:Do your own research on Chinese symbols and check multiple references to make sure that the symbol is correct. Don't go to the tattoo shop and choose a symbol out of the book because you can't be sure the symbols are right. Just do your won research so you know what you're getting.
Reply:Some artists probably just screw up, i doubt they'd do that on purpose, unless if they were unprofessional and the client was being a real pain. When they draw the design for the transfer, and put it on your body, be sure to double check that it exactly corresponds to the design you brought in. Your bigger worry honestly should be making sure that design you've got is actually the correct design with the correct meaning. There are a couple of different kanji for love and they mean different types of love. A friend of mine knows Chinese, and she saw a girl with kanji for woman tattooed on her. Well, she wanted "woman" anyway, meaning "woman power/female energy" that kind of thing. BUT, in China, that symbol she used was the one they commonly place on the door of the women's bathroom! So it's important to know what the word really signifies in that culture, in addition to knowing for sure that the kanji is drawn exactly right. Another example - the Japanese word for transformation - I saw a very cute tattoo design of this and wanted to get it - but I asked a friend, and she said now it commonly refers to bodily transformation of superheros in cartoons. Then I tried a Japanese saying - but I asked her for the translation and she said it was actually a strange idiom that didn't make sense. So I dropped the kanji idea.

Live Plants in vivarium for chinese water dragon?
I am wanting to add some live plants to my vivarium for my chinese water dragon - maybe a ficus or a hibiscus. I am a little worried because nursuries use so many pesticides, and also if there may be little bugs on it or something that would contaminate his environment. I am wondering if it is safe to add these plants. If not, what is the best way to go about it?
Thanks!
Live Plants in vivarium for chinese water dragon?
go to this website and see a list of plants you can put in your tank. if you are concerned about pesticides and such. they do wash off. you can spray them down with a light continual mist from a garden hose. fruit is almost always covered in pesticides and chemicals and all we normaly do is wash the fruit with water before eating it. it will work just the same for the plant. and I doubt your cwd's will eat the plants they are not big veggie eaters. it is usually a trick to get them to eat any type of veggie for me. I can get them to eat green bean baby food though.
Reply:Just rinsing off the plants and their roots will work. The plants might go into a sort of shock but should come right back up once they get settled in the vivarium. I have a book on Chinese Water Dragons and it says that Ficus, Forsythia, Grape, Hibiscus, Lantana camara, mulberry, pineapple and sansevieria are good choices for them. In my experience Bamboo is awesome for lizards. You can buy some lucky bamboo that is braided or twisted or something so it gives more structure and if he is still small could climb on it or something. Good Luck!

Good Luck!

Reply:We call it 大红花 = da4 hong2 hua1
大 = big
红 = red
花 = flower
Direct translation is Big red flower. But the actual name is hibiscus.
Reply:芙蓉

I guess
Reply:According to my knowledge and further investigation, hibiscus is not something called "Big Red Flower". Actually, "BRF" refers to a really big, red flower, which can be of any species or genus.
Both "mujin" and "furong" is taxonomically right. I bet, however, many Chinese people won't know what you are talking about if you mention "mujin" to them. "Furong" is much more acceptable in Chinese popular culture.
Hope that helps
thanks!

What kind of angiosperm does a Chinese Hibiscus have?
Dicot ,Monocot ,Annual or Perennial?
What kind of angiosperm does a Chinese Hibiscus have?
The first part of your question does not make any sense (well, the "does ... have" part). Chinese Hibiscus _is_ an angiosperm.
From what follows, it is a dicot (in the family Malvaceae) shrub (therefore, it's perennial).

Reply:that would be a perennial dicot.

Why the hibiscus flower is called a Chinese Hibiscus?
It is believed to be native to China and came to the world by way of the South Pacific and Hawaii. Little is known about the early history of tropical hibiscus.

Reply:It's really Chinese. They made it there.
